5 Back To School Money and Time Saving Tips

The summer sun may still be keeping your kids up past bedtime, but it is already time to start thinking about Back to School. And for Back to School savings, the trick is to plan ahead!

Here are five money saving - and time saving - tips to get you ready for your kids to go back to school.

  • School Supply Kits -- Many schools offer school supply kits that you can pre-order in the spring. This time saving tip keeps you out of the mad dash to stores the night before school starts. No more running around town to find the exact pair of scissors the school list requires. It is all done for you and meets your child at school! If your school doesn't provide this service, consider websites such as EZ School Supplies.com. But just make sure you shop in time for it to arrive before the Big Day!
  • Hit the Stores Before the Rush -- If you don't opt for a School Supply Kit or a website like EZ School Supplies.com, then hit your local stores early and pick out your kids supplies BEFORE they are all sold out. Nothing is more frustrating than needing the item and seeing an empty shelf.
  •  Buy One or Two New Outfits or Items and then WAIT! -- There are two very good reasons to not make a huge back to school clothes shopping trip. First, it will probably be far too hot for your child to wear their new fall fashions in the first month. Second, those items will be on sale in a matter of weeks. If you child wants a special outfit to wear on their first day, then splurge on one or two new outfits or pieces and then hold off and go shopping when the sales hit.
  • Pull Out the Sale Items You Bought Last Year -- Remember those great pants you picked up in the next size last fall? Dig everything out of the closet and take stock of everything you stored away that was too big for your child.
  •  Reuse -- Does everything need to be new this year? Last year my nephew used a Lands' End backpack that we were sent for review. It was such great quality that he can use it again this year. The same can often be said for lunch kits, water bottles, etc.
