Healthy Hints - Eating Healthy

Drain off the Grease

SCOTT® Towels on a roll are durable, handy in the kitchen, and help keep meals healthy. After you brown ground beef, drain off the extra grease using a SCOTT® Towel and a colander. Simply line the colander with a sheet of SCOTT® Towel, pour in the browned meat, let it sit for a minute or two, then return the beef to the pan and continue your recipe. Don't throw the towel in the trash! Add it to your compost pile for your garden. This way you really do save money for future kitchen problems that could occur from too much grease in the pipes. It also helps to keep your water supply healthy by not adding grease to our rivers and streams.

Dependable SCOTT® Shop Towels

I buy SCOTT® Shop Towels on a roll by the case. They are a pretty blue color & work super in my kitchen, bath & my husband's work shop. They are durable & reusable. Just wash by hand & hang to dry. I use them as replaceable mop heads instead of buying the expensive replacements. They work better cleaning my floors & just about every other task in our home -- dusting, sweeping, mopping, & scrubbing everything. A case of 30 rolls last over 7 months or better.

SCOTT to the Rescue in the Kitchen

I needed cheese cloth to strain vegetables and seasoning from a thick broth and didn't have cheesecloth in the house. I used SCOTT SHOP TOWELS ON A ROLL. They turned out to be quite sturdy and did the job quite well -- so well indeed that I used them when needed to strain my homemade jelly. Simply use them as you would cheese cloth, then discard in your compost pile for next year's garden. They are less expensive than cheese cloth too.

Shiny Cookware from Top to Bottom

Good stainless steel cookware can cost upwards of $1,500 for a nice and complete set. Keep it clean and shiny from top to bottom by using a mixture of ammonia, corn starch and water. Mix 1/4 cup of ammonia with 5 tablespoons of corn starch and 4 tablespoons of water. Stir until completley mixed. Dip a SCOTT Towel into the mixture, and using a small circular motion, clean the bottom of the pan, dipping the towel into your mixture as necessary. Rinse with cool water, then dry. This mixture works on copper pans, aluminum pans, glass cookware and others. It is not expensive to make or use and cleans without scratching, unlike some harsh cleansers. This mixture also works well on your glass cooktop and sinks; porcelain or stainless steel.

Little Dog Bath Time

We own two adorable small dogs, Pip (a Chihuahua) and Dash (a curious Chihuahua/Beagle mix). When it is bath time, to prevent dog hair from going down the drain, I line my sink with Scott Shop Towels on a Roll. I let a little paper towel drape over the sides of the sink too, which affords a quick and easy clean up. By lining the sink with STRONG Scott Shop Towels on a Roll, I save myself the possibility of ending up with clogged drains caused by the hair of my SUPER SHEDDERS, because I catch it all in the towels. Then I simply throw them away or put 'em in my compost pile!

Keep it Clean and Healthy

Spills happen in cupboards in the kitchen, bath or laundry room. I don't want curious bugs snooping around my cupboards, so once a month, I line my shelves with SCOTT Towels. Then when I am cleaning a room, I simply remove the old SCOTT Towel and put in new ones. Because they are on a roll, it makes the job that much easier. I put the old SCOTT Towels in with our paper recycling. They can also be used to clean up areas in the garage and cleaning outside furniture and patio shelves before discarding them.

Donations = Tax Deductions & Clean Closets

Each November, our family has a discard-a-thon in preparation for our annual "Holiday Decorating Day," which follows our Thanksgiving Day noon feast. Usually the second weekend in November, we go room by room gathering and listing all items to be donated to charity. We also gather items for the food bank. The following Monday, I take five minutes to record our donations in our computerized tax records, load the car, stop and buy a few NEW toys and more food for our local food bank, then make my rounds to deliver them.

Home Store-age!

I have a small kitchen and storage is an issue. Also, I like to take advantage of really good sales and stock up on frequently used items. I converted a large walk-in closet in my dining room into a pantry by adding easy-to-assemble shelves. I lined all three walls with shelving units where I store items just as they would appear on the grocery store shelf. I keep edible items apart from cleaning items and make sure the labels are facing front. This way it is very easy for me to find exactly what I need and reduce my shopping bills!
