Cooking Faster

I'm a single dad, and I need to cook for my three kids every day. Whenever I am cooking beans and rice, I always put it in warm water one hour before cooking it. This way it cooks faster while using much less energy too.

Did you know...?

Almost all paper and plastic cardboard roll dispensers have push-in tabs on each end to make dispensing foil and plastic wrap smoother and easier. This is a blessing, considering all the frustration and wasted plastic wrap when you can't find the end.

Reuse Yogurt Containers

Many yogurt containers are exactly one cup. After eating the yogurt, I wash them and reuse the containers for measuring shortening, molasses or any type of sticky type food for baking. Then I throw them away. It saves a ton of clean-up time.

Handy Scott Towel

To make stale croissants or buns tasty again, place them inside a slightly wet SCOTT® Towel and place it in the microwave for 40 seconds. They will be warm and soft again!

30 Second Hot Dog!

When we would go to the lake in the summers, we would take along quick foods for meals out on the boat. One of the things the kids loved were the quick hot - hot dogs we made. You put a hot dog in a hot dog bun, take one sheet square of SCOTT® Towel, and lay the whole hot dog (without condiments) on the square. Wrap up the ends and roll it loosely and microwave it on high for 30 seconds. It makes a perfect hot dog every time! Handle carefully because it will be hot. I heat up one at a time.

Single Serving Idea

I freeze hot dog (chile) sauce in ice cube trays. Each cube is enough for one hot dog. When frozen, I pop the cubes out and store them in a plastic freezer bag. I use this method also for cream to put in gravies. When I make gravy, I pop one or two cubes of frozen cream into the gravy for extra flavor.

Ground Meat

I buy ground meat in bulk. Since I don`t need all of it, I cut it into portions and freeze it in freezer bags. After it is in the portion size, I place a plate on it and mash it as flat as I can in the freezer bag. This makes it faster to defrost and cook. It also stacks better in the freezer. I simply place the flattened bags on cookie sheets until frozen. This has saved me time and stress when I am in a hurry to make dinner.

Healthier Chicken

When taking off that unhealthy chicken fat, I always use a SCOTT Towel to remove it. You get a good grip on the chicken, and it really saves time.
