Chopping Nuts

If you add a little flour when chopping nuts with a food processor they won't stick/clump on the blades.

Keeping Lettuce Fresh

Whatever kind of lettuce you purchase: iceberg, romaine, red or green leaf, when you get it home immediately rip off large leaves and submerge in a large bowl of ice water for about 20 minutes. Remove lettuce and let dry on SCOTT® Towels for about 15 minutes. Here's the helpful tip: Lay your roll of SCOTT® Towels on the counter and start to roll it out about 12 inches or so; lay some lettuce leaves on the paper towels, fold paper towel over the top of the leaves and add another layer of lettuce. Continue until done. Put wrapped leaves in a plastic bag and refrigerate!

Taco Night

When I am serving tacos I use a quart size zipper-top bag, fold the bag down on one side of the bag, put the sour cream, taco sauce, etc in the corner. Then twist the bag secure with a tie and cut a small hole in the corner of the bag for easy and clean dispensing. Kids love it as well. Also good for decorating cookies and cakes!

Microwave Cooking

When heating foods in the microwave I always cover my plate or bowl with SCOTT® Paper Towels. This absorbs any grease or splatter. For a quick meal on the go I wrap a hot dog with a SCOTT® Paper Towel and heat it for 30 seconds. My microwave stays clean, and leftovers taste great!

Freeze Flat

When you buy ground beef, pork, chicken, turkey, etc, in bulk, flatten the meat out in a freezer bag and squish out all the air. The meat freezes flat, it is easier to stack in your freezer, and it takes less time to defrost it.

For good steamed hot dog, place a wet SCOTT® Towel on your plate, then place your hot dog buns on top. Cover them with another wet SCOTT Towel, put them in the microwave for a few seconds and voila!!

Washing Produce

Now that almost all green products and a number of vegetables we shop for are placed in plastic bags, here's a quick way to prepare and store your produce. When unpacking your groceries, fill the produce bags with cold water, and shake. Then, holding the bag over the sink, simply punch a number of holes in the bag to let remaining water drip out. Squeeze the bag and twist water out. Now the produce is ready for the refrigerator, reusing the same bags. Furthermore, you'll save time by not having to find the colander and wash it afterwards.

Molasses or Maple Syrup

When a recipe calls for molasses or maple syrup, spray the measuring cup first with nonstick spray. It will just slide right out, and you will not have any waste.
