Dual Purpose Coffee Filters

I tend to pack a sloppy, gloppy sandwich for my lunch. Now, before I place this messy sandwich in the sandwich bag, I nestle it inside a coffee filter. When I pull my sandwich out of the bag with the filter at the base, none of my goodies remain in the bag. It's still between the bread, where it belongs. It also keeps your fingers clean while trying to eat your mess.

Pitch Remover

Don't you hate it when you get pitch from a tree or board on your clothes or hands? I worked with lumber for a long time and got this tip from an old timer. Just reach for a bottle of 76% "rubbing alcohol." It quickly removes pitch with ease. This has worked a great many times for me.

Microwave Magic

You can use plain white SCOTT Towels in the microwave to keep it clean or to wrap sandwiches for heating and re-heating. That means not having to clean plates!

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

By accident while cleaning my dentures over the sink, I dropped both of my effervescent tablets in the toilet, missing my denture cup. I noticed the fizzing and the stains magically lifting from the toilet bowl.

Preventing Carpet Stains

Have one or two boxes of salt on hand at all times (iodized is not necessary). This sounds strange, but I promise you it really works well. I've been using this method for over 40 years. As soon as the spill happens, I mean immediately...grab the salt box. GENEROUSLY pour and pile the salt everywhere there is liquid. Really pile it on. Now here's the really strange part. Leave it for 24 hours, until dry. The salt will draw all the liquid out of the carpet. After 24 hours, break up the clumps (it gets hard when it dries) and, using a large spatula, throw all the large pieces into the trash. Then vacuum up the remaining salt. Using a nozzle for the last few grains works well. You'll never have a stain again.

Freshen Trash Cans

I sprinkle a little carpet deodorizing powder in the trash can liners to keep my trash cans smelling fresh.

Ink Removal

To remove ink stains made my permanent markers or pens, test an area that is hidden for color fastness. With a clean white cloth, use straight ammonia with a spray bottle and rub the area until nearly dry. Repeat the process until the ink is gone.

Removing Ink Stains

When you get ink pen marks or stains on counter tops in the kitchen, bathroom or work area, spray with non-aerosol hairspray and wipe with toilet paper. If it's still there, spray again with an alcohol-based hairspray. It works!
