Knowing Stains

I used to work in a concession stand, and I'd come home with grease or popcorn butter on my clothes. I figured, "If dish soap gets grease off dishes, it surely could save my clothes." So I tried dabbing some dish soap on the spots and working it into the fabric before throwing it in the wash. It works! Also, if you are looking to get a stain out of colored clothes, peroxide is a great color-safe bleach. Mix it with some baking soda to form a paste and work it into the clothes. It will save almost anything!

White and Bright

I buy all white t-shirts, socks, sheets, towels, shorts, dish cloths and dish towels for everyday! Everything goes into hot water with bleach. And everything comes out sparkling clean and white. I only buy color for company and holidays!

Soft & Lint-free Laundry

Take a half cup of white vinegar and add it to your washing machine's rinse cycle. This will make your clothes soft and lint free. You will NEVER be bothered by a vinegar smell on your clothes. I tried it once and now use it religiously. You can still use your normal fabric softener, but vinegar is especially good for those items that you don't trust with fabric softener.

Stop the Washer Tie-dye

Avoid unintentionally tie-dying your clothes in the washer. Pour a half-cup of vinegar into your wash, and it will stop the dyes in your clothes from running.

Recycle Towels

When towels and wash cloths get old or stained, I cut a corner off and throw it into the rag bag. The missing corner reminds me that they are rags so they don't become mixed up with the good towels when laundered.

Tape It

If you don't have a lint brush or roller for your clothes, use tape! It does the same thing as the lint brush or roller. Wide packing tape works the best. All you have to do is take off a fairly large piece of tape and tape the ends together. Roll with your hands across your clothes, and it will pick up anything that's there. It really works well for pet hair, especially on black or dark-colored clothes.

Bleaching Effectively

You can never decide which is better -- bleach or Oxyclean? Try a cup of bleach AND a scoop of Oxyclean. The two together get whites their whitest, and that is how they make Oxyclean look so good on television!

Dryer Filter Cleanout

The tube from a SCOTT Towel roll fits well over the vacuum hose. Place it over the hose and pinch the end almost flat. Remove the dryer lint trap and vacuum the lint that you can't reach from behind the trap. A cleaner lint trap is a safer one!
