Frozen Toes

For frozen toes, fingers, and other body parts... don't rub the skin! Instead, slowly warm them by placing them under your armpits or a warm blanket.

Burn-free Baths

After running hot water for anything (bath, dishes, etc.), run a little cold water through the faucet. If your child accidentally turns the hot tap on, you'll have a few seconds of cold water coming through before it can get hot again and burn them.

Salad in a Bag

Leaf lettuces can be cut with a knife without "rusting," and thus can be made into a huge salad with tons of other veggies and saved in the fridge for days. It's a fraction of the cost of bagged salads. Just hold the cheese, bacon bits or croutons until serving.

Stop the itch

When my husband gets a bug bite, he comes in the house and wets a paper towel. Wad it up and put it in the microwave oven for 3 or 4 seconds. Put the hot towel on the bite, but be careful not to burn your skin. This will ease the pain almost at once.

Easy Ice Pack

For an ice pack that will conform to any shape, mix rubbing alcohol and water together in a tight-closing quart-size freezer bag and freeze. The combination will not freeze solid and can be used instead of expensive store-bought ice packs.

Stay Cool

Whenever you plan an outdoor activity with friends and family, pack several wet washclothes in an insulated tote along with a frozen ice pack. Clean and cool is at your fingertips in case kids get injured or overheated.

Burns

Whenever you get a mild burn, just apply some regular mustard. The vinegar in the mustard takes the pain away, and the thickness of the mustard keeps it on the burn without running off. Just re-apply when it dries.
