Fighting germs

After leaving the supermarket, or any other store for that matter, I use the antibacterial hand cleaner I keep in my car console. I use an extra bit to wipe down the steering wheel, door handle, buttons on the dash I use, etc. I wash my gallon milk jugs before putting them in the fridge also.

Disinfecting hands on the go

Keep a pump bottle of hand sanitizer IN YOUR CAR. Use it each time you enter the car after touching surfaces in stores which may be contaminated with flu virus. Wipe down the steering wheel, too.

Clean Hands While Shopping

When we go shopping we always carry wet wipes to wipe off the shopping cart. We also wipe our hands with wet wipes before and after shopping. Sometimes we even bring our own bags so not to bring home any bugs that might get in plastic bags. All there precautions make for a (hopefully) healthier shopping experience.

Soda Substitute

The best way to keep your family healthy is by encouraging healthy eating habits. Consider eliminating soda from you family's diet. At most, only let your children drink soda on the weekends, or as a special treat. Substitute soda for an alternative tasty drink, like a smoothy. Pick your favorite fruits and watch your kinds enjoy a nice, healthy, sweet drink.

Elderly Emergency Lists

I keep a file folder next to my elderly mother's EMERGENCY CALL box. In this folder there's copies of important documents such as an updated list of all her medications, allergies, pacemaker information, DNR, living will, and copies of her insurance card, social security card, state I.D. and my power of attorney. When she was transported to the hospital via ambulance last week, there was no panic. Everything was handy and in one place.

Keep Medical Info Handy

My husband and I both keep each others' and our daughter's medical history and prescription information, etc. in our billfold/purse. Our daughter keeps our info in her purse. This came in handy when my husband lost consciousness last year during his heart attack. It saved precious time en route to the hospital and in the ER. I gave the paramedics the list as they left the house with him. Whenever any of our medical information changes, we update all the lists on our word processor.

Sanitize Tip

I keep rubbing alcohol in a plastic condiment bottle on my kitchen sink. I use it with a SCOTT Towel to wipe down the glass cutting boards, handles on the kitchen on appliances -- especially the fridge -- and anything I feel I want to sanitize. It's great in the bathroom too!
