Lunch Box Ice

I found really cool Lunch Box Ice at Amazon.com. These ice packs come in fun colors and in different sizes. They're great for keeping lunches cool and fresh, and my kids love them.

Keep Cheese from Molding

To keep block cheese from molding, I keep the cheese in the wrapper it comes in (peeled down to expose just the end) then store it in a zip-top bag. Don't forget to cover the cut end of the cheese with a Scott towel. It absorbs any moisture that may develop in the bag and keeps the cheese fresh tasting.

Miracle Lemon Juice

When making up ice water bottles for everyone before a long drive, add a few drops of lemon juice, and the water will stay fresh tasting, not like plastic. Don't use sugar, though, as it promotes bacterial growth.

Fresh Guacamole

When making guacamole, leave one of the avocado seeds in it, and squeeze a little lime over it. It helps the dip stay fresh, and not turn brown. You can store the leftovers this way as well.

Plastic Water Bottles

There have been a lot of articles expressing concern about carcinogens when you freeze water bottles, so to keep my water bottles cold, I bought a soft-sided thermal cooler. I take the old used water bottles and fill them halfway and freeze. I put an indelible marker on the cap (these are not for drinking), but I put them in the cooler with the fresh water bottles, and you have cool water all the time -- even on very hot days, but you don't have melted ice inside the cooler.

End of Summer CANNING FESTIVAL

When canning tomatoes at the end of summer, be sure to keep a roll or two of SCOTT Towels handy. First, wash and dry your tomatoes with clean SCOTT Towels. When preparing your canning jars and after ladeling sauce into jars, use a clean SCOTT Towel to circle the rims and edges of the jars to make sure they're dry.

Fresher Salad

Put your green salad in a zip-top bag, then put a Scott Towel on top of the salad. Close the bag and turn it upside down. The Scott Towel will absorb excess moisture keeping the salad a bit longer.

Keep Vegetables Fresh!

I always keep a sheet of SCOTT Towels in the bag with my vegetables and fruits in the refrigerator. Salad greens, a cut onion or pepper, even cabbage. The extra moisture is absorbed, and my vegetables and fruit last longer.
