Keep Cereal Fresh

I take the cereal out of the box, keep it in its original bag, then put it in a zipped storage bag and keep it in the refrigerator. This way the cereal stays fresh for a very long time and you don't have to worry about bugs, etc.

Keeping Avocados Fresh

When you only need part of an avocado, slice it in half and keep the seed in the remaining half to use later. If you tightly wrap the remaining half with the seed intact in plastic wrap (keeping as much air out as possible), it will stay green and fresh for a couple days in your refrigerator.

Healthy, Fun, Kids' Snacks

Here's a quick lunch or snack idea that kids will love: Cut the top off an apple and core the middle of the apple. Fill the core with healthy things, such as raisins, peanuts, applesauce, pudding, yogurt, cereal, carrot sticks or anything healthy that will fit. Put the top back onto the apple and wrap the apple with colorful cellophane. You can even tie it with a colorful string or ribbon and add a loving note or fun joke. It is economical, healthy, and your child won't forget it. I call it "Our Secret Snack Pack."

Turn Turkey into a Delicious Meatloaf

If you've purchased frozen turkey burgers but found they were too bland, try this. Thaw patties in the fridge, then crumble them into a bowl. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion, parsley and a dash of Worchestershire sauce. To hold the mix together, add 1/3 to 1/2 cup unprepared instant potato flakes. Flakes are a better binding agent than bread crumbs because they add no additional taste to the main ingredients. Shape the mixture into a short loaf. Fry or bake until cooked thoroughly. The formerly bland turkey burger is now a flavorful and moist meatloaf, but with much less fat than ground beef. Spread some Dijon mustard on top of the loaf for an even zestier taste!

Skimming Fat from Soup Stock

If you do not have time to chill a soup or stock to remove excess fat floating on top, simply take a SCOTT® Towel and let it float on top to absorb grease. Repeat as needed. It saves time, reduces fat content and makes a healthier broth.

Brown Bag Lunches

When preparing sandwiches put a SCOTT® Towel on the counter to keep it clean. After the sandwich and other items are in the bag, fold the paper towel and place it on top. When the bag is opened this SCOTT® Towel can be used as a placemat to protect your children's lunch from the germs on the table at school.

Healthy Eating

Try to read the labels on the food you buy to see how many calories it has and how much salt is in it. It really makes a difference in how healthy you are. You can still have a special treat now and then. I'm only 12 and I know what I'm talking about. I learned it from TV.
