If you use the sniff test to check the ripeness or freshness of cantaloupes, pineapples, fish, etc., don't apply any scents, especially scented hand lotion, before heading to the grocery. Your scent will make it almost impossible to smell the food.
When you need to tie a bow, string, or other slippery material tightly on package, pom pom, etc.,and have trouble holding the first half of the tie tight while you accomplish the second, simply run the tie through the first loop TWICE instead of once, and pull tightly. It will stay in place while you tie the second half, making a secure knot.I believe this came from a physician who explained how he sews people back together.

In response to The common sense tip of the day on Feb. 12, from Renee in Pasadena. Garlic is potentially harmful to dogs and cats as it can damage their red blood cells and cause anemia. I would advise against using it to prevent fleas.
A tip was sent out to me Friday at 5:47pm that said people should feed their dogs garlic to avoid fleas. Dogs, however, should never eat garlic. It is toxic and they could die. I sure hope this is reviewed and corrected.
Wrap celery in tin-foil. It will keep for a long time. Since doing this I've not lost one yet.
