Post-it for Change

If you want to make a change in your life, write your resolution on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror. It will subconciously remind your brain of the change. Concentrate on your resolution and affirm to yourself that you will make that change and that it would be most benefcial for your mind and body to commit to the new resolution.

Make It Seem Achievable

Instead of saying you will lose 60 pounds, make a goal to lose 5 pounds a month. This year, I decided that instead of forcing myself to write a book, I'll commit myself to writing 200 words a week -- or more, if I feel like continuing. Making goals achievable makes all the difference.

Bedtime Stories on Tape

Have the parent make an audio or video tape reading several stories. The child will have the book in his hand and can follow along. This was most comforting to my little one's when Dad was overseas, in the military, on 6 month trips.

Don't Resolve!

You're more likely to fail if you wait for a certain date to make a resolution. Take whatever behavior you want to change and fit it into your day: "No chocolate until I walk two miles." Then, on New Year's Day, you'll be setting goals instead.

Helping Those in Need

Save trial size items you get in the mail, from hotels or cosmetic "gift with purchase" items. Ask friends to save them too. Even your dentist may donate toothpaste samples for you to take. When you have a big bag full, take them to a homeless or battered women's shelter. They will be greatly appreciated.
