I came from the "Love means never having to say you're sorry" era (Love Story, the movie). So, as a young bride, my Mom told me the following: "Marriages may be made in Heaven, but they have to be maintained on Earth." I'm sure at the age of 20, I rolled my eyes at this saying of hers. Some 34 years later, I've passed this advice on to both our son and daughter as they prepared to marry and have also enclosed the sentiment in bridal shower & wedding cards.
