I save all the return address labels from my holiday cards, and tape them into an address book (or you could use a notebook). When I need to send a holiday card or birthday day cards during the year, I have everything, including the zip code +4. It is very handy to have this nearby.
We have color coded plastic bins that hold our holiday/seasonal decorations. While clearing the shelves/walls of daily decor (to be temporarily replaced by the holiday decorations), I place them into the bin I'm unloading and wrap them with SCOTT Towels. This not only saves space, time and trying to remember where I put a certain item later on, though the paper towels are right there to use for cleaning post-holiday windows and wiping down/dusting the holiday decorations to be packed.
I use the empty rolls to keep my patio lights organized. I cut a notch in the end and tuck the plug inside the roll. I wind the lights around and secure the end of the lights in a notch at the other end. Works great to keep all the lights from turning into a mess of knots and tangles.
My holiday bins are color coded, making it easier to find what I need. Christmas = red, Halloween = orange, Easter = purple, Valentine's/anniversary type stuff = pink, etc. Most holidays only have one bin, except Christmas, and I usually take all my Christmas decorations out at once to set up, so it isn't really necessary to know exactly what is in each bin. This way I don't ruin the bins by trying to write on them or tape on labels that fall off.
When storing your holiday decor, tape a ribbon or paper that represents that holiday around the box or bin for an easy visual clue as to what is in it.
During the year, I shop the clearance sales for next year's gifts. I put a large plasic container for each child in my basement, and when I find something for one or all of them, I put the gift in their container! When Christmas comes, my children get all their gifts in their container and the container itself for staying organized! They all love it!
To keep your opened roll of gift wrap neat, but still visible, use the leg off a pair of panty hose, or a knee high stocking to keep the open roll in. It won't unroll and get wrinkled, and unlike tucking it inside the paper tube, you can still see the design, and grab the right paper when needed.
When putting away your strings of mini-lights and/or strands of garland, coil them carefully. Then take large twist ties and twist them around the coils. Mark the end to start with next year using a bright colored piece of leftover gift ribbon.
