Smart Shopping

Place sticky notes on the back of your food cupboards, pantry doors and cleaning supply cabinets. Write down items as you use them up, such as cereal, window cleaner or SCOTT Towels. Before you go shopping, grab the notes and you have your list, without any concerns about forgetting items or buying things that aren't needed.

Green Gift-giving

Looking for environmentally friendly gifts this holiday season? How about giving plants or seedlings, coffee mugs (they might get someone a discount on coffee at the local coffee shop!) or making a charitable donation? Consider the HYmini Green-Energy Powered Charger, a portable wind and solar powered device that that converts enough energy to power up your cell phone, digital camera or MP3 player for hours!

A Great SCOTT Towel Product

There is a little known SCOTT Towel product that you can find in the large discount stores; usually in the automotive department. Ladies (any guys), please look for SCOTT Shop Towels on a Roll. They are durable, GREAT for cleaning house, cleaning appliances (underneath and inside), sweeping and mopping floors, and polishing and waxing furniture. They are a pretty blue color AND can be washed and reused. I love these towels, and compared with the disposable towels you buy for those new dust mops, they are a huge savings.

Keep Me Frozen/Cold

I have a folding cooler I purchased several years ago. I leave this in the trunk of my car, so when I go on my shopping trips, I can store the frozen food and meats in there together. They stay frozen/cool and I can go to the next store and know they will be fine. If I am planning a big shopping trip with numerous stops, I put my big cooler in the trunk. It saves gas and time being able to do all of those errands at the same time without having to run home.

Buy What You Need

It's tempting to buy larger quantities when prices are great, but do you have a way to safely store the extras? As a single senior citizen, I no longer have a need for large purchases. I found that much was going to waste, so now I shop more carefully, and only buy what I will use within a month.

Write a Nice Letter!

When I find a product I really like, I write the company an e-mail and tell them how great I think their product is. They almost always respond with coupons and samples! I did this with my dog food, one of the few things I don't buy generic, and they sent a ton of coupons!

Instead of Expensive Gifts

If you can’t afford to give a holiday gift to all of the special people in your life, give them something you’ve made. Everyone appreciates a gesture like a batch of homemade cookies, fudge or candy. If they don’t want to eat it, they can serve it at their holiday parties.
