Save a little extra

If I had five dollars in my wallet instead of spending it on pop or candy or junk food I would put it in the bank and save it. In a years time I saved a couple of thousand dollars. It adds up fast.

Checking Acct. Bank Statement

Make notations on the outside of your monthly checking account bank statement of all your checks needed if ever audited by the IRS. They are there at a glance when you need information for your income tax return.

Controlling Spending

Never charge any items that you can't pay for when the bill comes in. Larger items should be bought on 90 days same as cash. My husband and I have done this for 37 years. I can't tell you how good it feels to not have to worry about money. We did many extra jobs to help buy the things we wanted. We never compromised ourselves or family.

Penny Savers

Keep a jar or can near where you empty your pockets and put you change in it. Twice a year take it to the bank and put it in a savings acount.

Empty Bottle Dish Detergent

When your dish detergent bottle is empty, it still has lots of suds left over. Simply fill up and set it outside near faucet or outdoor sink for clean-ups. When empty re-cycle. Saves money and the environment.

Keep Septic Tank Clean

A good way of keeping your septic tank clean is to empty 2 packs of yeast into your toilet each month. The flushed yeast will eat the waste, saving money and maybe a lot of time in the future.

Money Laundering

I keep a piggy bank in my laundry room and drop in the change I find loose in my washer and dryer. I saved up $45 dollars in 10 weeks. It doesn't sound like much, but it'll buy dinner and a movie. I treated myself to a much-needed manicure and took a gal pal of mine to brunch.

Gift boxes

We start saving boxes from our groceries at the beginning of December. Tea, toaster pastry, even cake mix boxes are great sizes for small gifts. You have already paid for them, and they work nicely for gloves, toys, small tools and fragile presents.
