Reusing Envelopes

I pay many of my bills online, but I save the envelopes included in the statements. I reuse them for sending things into school for the kids, or whenever possible, I use them for mailing other things. I haven't bought envelopes in a long time!

Tissue Roll Napkin Rings

I make napkin rings out of SCOTT® Tissue and Towel rolls. Cut the rolls at 2-inch intervals, cover with felt or other material, and decorate with glitter, jewels or whatever you choose to match your decor. They can make great gifts!

Paper Towels

If you wipe up a small spill, you don't always have to throw your SCOTT Towel away. Just rinse out the towel, let it dry, and it's ready for use again.

Recycling Plastic Bags

Our local recycling company doesn't accept plastic bags. I have found that if you take them to Wal-Mart, there are usually plastic bag recycling bins right by the front door. It's a great way to get rid of extra bags and keep them out of the landfills.

Copy Paper

I keep sheets of copy paper that have something I don't need or just one sentence on one side, and the other side is clean. I keep them in a separate folder near my printer. Then when I'm printing something that doesn't need to be perfect, I use paper from the "previous copy folder," turn the paper over and use it as my copy paper. It saves money and the environment.

Reusable Gift Wrap

I use fabric remnants for gift wrapping. There are so many pretty prints and patterns that you can pick up at your local fabric store. You can also recycle old clothing that may not be fit to wear or donate, but can be salvaged for wrapping. Tie your packages with coordinating ribbon for a very festive look! They are reusable year after year and don't create trash.

Carpet Scraps

Most carpet stores throw away pieces of leftover carpet. Be sure to ask first before raiding the trash bin! I found several pieces big enough for deck runners and pieces for wiping shoes before entering our home, and some berber pieces that fit the floor of our vehicles. I even found a nice piece to lay on the floor in front of the kitchen sink.

Used Tea Bags and Coffee Grounds

I put all my used tea bags and coffee grounds in my flower bed, especially in with the roses. (I break open the tea bags and empty them.) My roses and other perennials seem to thrive on the tea grounds.
