Camp Fire Starter

Left over dryer lint and candle wax make for an excellent fire starter. First melt your left over candle wax on the stove. Meanwhile, take an empty egg carton and fill each part that holds the eggs with left over lint from your dryer - push the lint down firmly. Next, pour the melted candle wax over the lint, being careful not to spill, and let cool. Take this egg carton with you when you go out camping, and use one wax egg to start a fire.

Green Gift Wrap

Purchase multiple reusable grocery bags for gift-giving. Wrap your gift for any occasion in simple tissue, insert it into a reusable tote bag and attach a cute bow, tag or card.

Cleaning with Old Socks

My husband goes through socks fast, so I use his old ones for dusting. I just put my hand into the sock and dust away. Then you can just throw the sock away or be environmentally friendly and throw it in the washer for the next time you dust. I can dust the whole house and not have to buy any dusting cloths. I've done this for over 5 years and saved a lot of money.

Aluminum Foil and Styrofoam

If you use aluminum foil, it can go through the dishwasher multiple times before it is no longer usable. This goes for styrofoam too. I run these through the dishwasher a few times, and use them in lunch bags. Also, if you would like to send food to someone but rarely get your containters back, consider using a cleaned styrofoam box.

Coffee Grounds

I save all my used coffee grounds for my husband to use in his vegetable garden. I just dry them out and put them into an old coffee can. When the can is full, he mulches it into the garden.

Bread Bags

When I finish a loaf of bread, I save the bread bag to reuse for crushing crackers or pounding down meat. I also keep a bread bag in the freezer to keep the heels of bread in. When I have collected enough, I use it for making stuffing.

Cloth Napkins

I like to sew a lot, and I am always making something for the kids or grandkids. I take my scraps and make napkins out of them. Mine don't all match, but it saves on the paper waste, it's so easy and a lot of fun. My kids just love it and our friends and family get a big kick out of it. Make a few cloth napkins that you can use again and again. When they get real stained, I give them to my hubby to use as rags to work on the cars and farm stuff, so we get a lot of use out of one little cloth napkin. Have fun and make a few yourself.

Swifter Sweeper

When you run out of disposable covers for your lightweight sweeper pad, try a couple of used dryer fabric softener sheets. They work great!
