Saving Money on Vacations

My husband & I travel to beach for weekends several times a year; to cut cost, I have a cooler in the truck, which has knives, spoons, coffee condiments, few dishes & my old frying pan, Since sometimes we get a room without fridge I have cooler which I fill w/ice and put in things like cold cuts, hamburger meat & milk. We go to the store get items and fix meals for breakfast & lunch then splurge for supper. That way we can order the lobster w/out guilt.

Kleenex Wedge and Scott Napkins

When one of my Kleenex Wedges (orange) was empty, I cut the slot down to the bottom and folded in the pieces then filled it with Scott Napkins to make a great looking summery Napkin holder for my 4th of July Party.

Reusing Water For Flowers

When my children are finished swimming for the day in their wading pool, I reuse the water by watering my garden with it. It saves money on the water bill as well as saving a natural resource. There aren't any chemicals in it so it won't hurt the flowers and vegetables. Every little bit of recycling can go a very long way.

Peanut Butter Jars

Instead of putting all empty peanut butter jars in the recycle bin, wash a few out and keep handy for storage of a multitude of items. (ie. pencils, pens, rubber bands, etc.) also can be used to keep cookies and candy/candy bars fresh and pest free.

More Uses for Dryer Sheets

Cut each used dryer sheet in half or even quarters and use with nail polish remover to remove nail polish. They foam up and work very quickly. You can also use them to wipe under rim of toilet bowl to instantly remove residue.

Recycled Greeting Cards

Don't just throw away greeting cards you receive. I cut out parts of them and reuse them for gift tag. Just punch a hole in the corner and run a ribbon through and attach it to your next gift. We just had a graduation and I cut up several cards that had fun stuff on them like stars, polka-dots, graduation hats, balloons, etc. No sense in letting them go to waste.

Easy Tile Cleaner

Having an entire house with white tile floors means a lot of mopping. I've found that using dish detergent works better than any cleaner and is so cheap. When I am nearing the end of the dish detergent I fill the dispenser with water and use that to squirt the floor (also works on tubs and showers) - my tile is clean, shiny and residue free. Plus since it is used to clean dishes that we can eat off of I feel much better about my kids playing on the floor than if I were using toxic chemicals to clean.

Make Use of Empty Rolls

Cut empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls into 3" sizes and use them for large hair curlers. Use hair pins to hold them in your hair.
