Recycling Spaghetti

I find it difficult to guesstimate how much spaghetti to cook. I usually ended up discarding the extra spaghetti, which I hated to do. Since I am frugal, I decided to put the excess in a sealed container and freeze it. When I need spaghetti again, I dump the frozen spaghetti into a pot of boiling water and boil it for about 3 minutes. It comes out just like fresh cooked spaghetti. My family doesn't have a clue that it had been frozen spaghetti.

Homemade Wrapping Paper

In the summer, buy a paper table cloth, then give the kids spray bottles filled with 1 part of washable paint to about 3 parts of water. Hang the table cloth on fence and spray. Let dry and cut for wrapping paper. Grandparent love this homemade paper. You can also use crayons and finger paint.

Fun, Inexpensive Snacks

To make a fun snack for the kids, mix low-sugar cereal, raisins and other dried fruits, mixed nuts and a small amount of chocolate chips in a bowl. Fill sandwich or snack bags with a half cup or cup of the mixture, and you'll have a healthy snack on the go that your kids will love.

No-skid Socks

Use fabric paint to dab small dots or create a fun design on the bottom of your family's socks to avoid slipping and falling.

Recycle Cards

When we get birthday and holiday cards, I like to save the front covers for my daughter to make into inexpensive, homemade cards. She can cut them into interesting shapes and pick out decorations to make them special.

Wrapping

For wrapping gifts for children, I use the funnies papers from the Sunday newspaper. They are colorful and fun for the kids to read. Saves money buying wrapping paper.

Leftover Saver

If your family doesn't eat leftovers before they go bad, try this. Freeze leftovers in meal size portions. They will last longer, and make for a quick microwave meal when you don't have time to cook.

Use empty paper towel rolls to ship small items in the mail. Have fun decorating them too!
